Mom Fail of the Week

Hope you all enjoyed your three day weekend!!! My mom fail of the week was forgetting I live in Iowa….

I did not pack wisely for a weekend at my grandpa’s. I packed pants for the kids thinking the weather would be cool and in the 70’s. On Sunday we were baking in the sun! Fortunately, my sister in law had extra shorts for her kids she shared, which definitely helped cool them off. However, my wardrobe was a different story…

No pictures sorry hahaha…. My husband forgot to pack gym shorts, he wears as pajamas. Therefore the only shorts we had was his swimsuit. I am incredibly petite, but I rocked those xl swim trunks with a hair tie tail in the back!!!

Needless to say packing can be a struggle haha…

Please share your mom or dad fails of the week we’d love to hear them!!!

Communication

What is the best way to keep the stitches of a relationship tight? If you read the title I gave you the answer… Haha

Communication! Without communication our stitches would be loose and frayed coming apart.

Imagine you never talk to your spouse. You know they are always there if you need something, but you just go about doing your own thing. You never make time to communicate with them and see what they are doing. Is this the type of relationship you would desire with your spouse?

Then why do we find ourselves doing this to God? It is so easy to wrapped up in our everyday lives, especially if you have children! We worry about our jobs, finances, keeping our house clean, or when our favorite tv show will be on. However, when we are in need something we jump on our 1-800 prayer line relying on God to answer.

Do not get me wrong I absolutely love the fact the Lord is there for us whenever we need to vent or call out to Him. But it does not feel good for people to only contact you when they need something.

The Lord wants us to talk to Him about everything good or bad. He is our Father who loves us, communication will make the relationship we have with God stronger.

I myself am guilty of not taking enough time to communicate with the Lord on a regular basis. Here are some ways I have found to help me stay in communication with God:

1) Listening to a Christian radio station, K-Love is national and very positive. My kids love singing a long with me!

2) The Holy Bible app or the Daily Bible app. They both have a notification pop up on your phone daily with a Bible verse and mini devotional.

3) Reading Positive Blogs thanks for reading mine!!!

4) Reading a chapter out of my Bible before bed

5) I love Sarah Young’s 365 Devotions books!!! Currently I am reading Jesus Always Embracing Joy in His Presence

6) Last, but certainly not least through prayer!

Please comment ways you have found or enjoy to help you stay in Communication with God!

Mom Fail of the Week

Well I am a day late for my mom fail of the week. Sorry if you were looking forward to reading this yesterday. My moms fail of the week is actually the reason for the late post…

For the first time as a mom I feel lost with no idea of how to handle a situation. My two year old daughter truly is extremely sweet and cuddly, but she can not control her temper and when she gets to that point there is no reasoning with her.

I was playing mini doll houses with the kids. My son had a doll, my two year old pulled on it in his hand. She screamed and tried to yank it from his hand. He tells her “Ariah I am playing with this doll, don’t take from hands.” To which she responds by slapping him two times in the chest. I held her hand before she could hit him again. She yanked her hand away from mine and slapped me right in the face.

I know the whole to spank or not to spank debate exists. However, I believe a spank is necessary in certain situations. This being one of them.

I firmly told her, “you do not hit your mom that is absolutely not okay.” I carry her dead weight, shaking, screaming body to her room. I spanked her bottom and told her I love her, but she needs to know hitting her mom is not okay and she needs to remember that. I close her door and tell her we would love for her to play with us when she is ready to play nice and keep her hands to herself.

Next thing I know I hear her door fly open she runs up to me and kicks me right in the back. At this point she is raging, I am raging. I am also speechless. I try to hold her to help comfort her and calm her down. She screamed no and pushed me away. Then her siblings try to hug her to which she responds by hitting again. I set her in my bedroom knowing she needs space to calm down. Still no luck….

As a mom I feel clueless. I have never had troubles calming my children down. It is not safe by any means to put a child safety lock on the inside of her door and if I put a gate up she will just climb it possibly knocking it down hurting herself.

The number of children you have makes no difference because every child is different and what works for one child may not work for another. So for now I am clueless trapped in the difficult trial and error stage.

No mom knows it all and even though I like to think I do, obviously I do not. Normally I have a good head on my shoulders with ideas of what to do, but I am stumped…. Hence my mom fail of the week.

We would love to hear your mom fail of the week and thoughts please comment yours below!

Quick and Easy Dinner Recipe

We all know how busy life can get, the other night I had 20 mins to make dinner. CHALLENGE EXCEPTED! I felt like I was on an episode of chopped looking through our pantry.

Then my childhood roots spoke to me and I decided to make cheez whiz toast and tuna. I absolutely loved when my mother would make it when we were kids!!!

I always serve a vegetable with dinner, I opened our freezer and found asparagus, yum! I had ingredients and my plan; I was ready to win chopped… I mean make dinner for my family.

Baked seasoned asparagus:

  1. Place your asparagus flat on a cookie sheet or in a 9×13 pan.
  2. Season with your favorite seasonings! I use pepper, seasoned salt, McCormick garlic and herb, and steak n’ shake seasoning mix.
  3. Drizzle olive oil on top of your asparagus.
  4. Shake parmasean cheese over the asparagus.
  5. Bake in the oven at 350 degrees for about 15 mins or until your asparagus is done the way you prefer I personally like mine with a little crunch.

Cheez whiz toast and tuna:

  1. Drain two cans of tuna and put them in a bowl.
  2. Add miracle whip or mayonnaise. (The amount is your preference. I add enough to when I whip it into the tuna it is all creamy and smooth).
  3. Toast your bread.
  4. Once your bread is done spread cheez whiz on both slices.
  5. Using a spoon spread the tuna mixture onto the cheez whiz covered bread.
  6. Put the other piece on top and you have a delicious sandwich!!!

Mom Fail of the Week

For my mom fail of the week it is too nasty for pictures… Gotta love kids! We were at a friend’s house for lunch. The girls were all playing dress up. My husband and I did not smell or know our two year old had pooped…

We were sitting in their living room when she came out naked and asked us to help her put a dress up dress on. I see her leg covered in poop and feel my stomach sink. I got up and looked down the hallway for her diaper. However, I found much more….

My daughter stepped in her diaper and walked down the hall leaving a poop trail. I felt horrible! It is one thing if she does this at home, but at another person’s house!

As we cleaned her and the hallway we kept apologizing. Our friends have three kids of their own. The wife was incredibly calm and understanding. Her reaction truly helped comfort me and made me feel better about the situation. The way she handled the situation was truly amazing and something to strive for.

We’d love to hear your stories! Please comment and share them!

#speaklife

https://www.facebook.com/tobymac/

I absolutely love Toby Mac’s Christian pop music. It is so nice to have positive upbeat music for the kids to listen to. What children listen to does affect their mood and actions. For example, the more upbeat happier the music is the more happier the child will be.

Furthermore, Toby Mac’s Facebook page is hands down my favorite Facebook page. I posted the link above, along with a couple examples of his #speaklife memes. I highly recommend you follow his page. His posts will truly help uplift your day and keep your mind focused on God. Facebook is full of negativity brighten yours up with positivity!

Mom Fail of the Week

My mom fail of the week was more like a freak accident. I wanted to share this with all of you to spread awareness.

On the top of our swing set platform is a plastic toy kitchen. My five year old daughter was playing with it last Sunday and got stung on the bottom. Then on Thursday she was playing up there again with her little sister. She screams she got stung again. I take off running towards her and there is a swarm of wasps surrounding them. I tell her to run to the house. I climb up grab my two year old daughter and run to the house as well.

Needless to say I felt horrible! I could not find any nests! I called my brother who owns his own pest control business. He came out and found a nest of paper wasps inside the toy kitchen!!!

I learned the hard way to make sure during the summer to check everything outside your children are playing with. I’m so thankful my daughter was not allergic!

Comment your mom fails! We’d love to read them!

Hot Tea

Hot tea is definitely one of those drinks for an acquired taste. I am whole heartly a hot chocolate fan. However, some of the best conversations I have had involved sitting around drinking hot tea.

Think of one person in your life who first helped lead you to God…

We all have our different journeys and ages when we started our walk with the Lord.

Mine would be my Grammy. My grammy gave me my first stepping stone, my first Bible. She also lived her life for God; an amazing kind hearted influence.

She is also a hot tea lover. We have tea parties with all of her daughters, grand daughters, and great grand daughters. During these tea parties we sit around drinking hot tea or hot chocolate relaxing and grow closer together in conversation.

We maintain our relationship with our relatives through conversation and enjoying each other’s company. Similar to how we maintain our relationship with the Lord. Through talking to Him in prayer or relaxing drinking hot tea while reading His word or doing a devotional.

You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

Ephesians 4:22-24

The Ephesians passage above explains how we change once we start our relationship with the Lord. We are made new in our attitudes and how we think. Being filled with positivity and hope. Live Holy for God not for the world. Through Him you will find way more peace of mind than you could find anywhere else.

Ultimately, only the Lord knows to whom he will reveal himself, but the simple act of giving someone a Bible may be the spark to start the fire while the Lord keeps it burning. Life can be chaotic and busy do not let the chaos put out your fire. Moms house work can wait make time for drinking hot tea with family, friends, and most importantly the Lord. Maintain those beautiful relationships!

Mom Fail of the Week

My mom fail of the week was forgetting to take my two year old daughter’s church nursery check in sticker off of her dress. We changed her into pajamas before bedtime. She must have taken the sticker off of her dress. She woke up and it was very stuck and Tangled in her hair! Poor dolly 😣 comment yours!!!! 😃

P.S. Sorry no picture with this mom fail, I want to protect my daughters name and information.

Husbands

I saw this meme when scrolling through Facebook and fell in love!!! I had to share it!!!

You will never forget the day you married your husband; the day you became a family!

24 For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.

Genesis 2:24

But you will also never forget the day you saw your husband become a Father! My love grew so much for my husband when I saw the love in his eyes when he held our daughter for the first time. As the children have grown I love to see the excitement explode through out their entire body as they see dad pull into the driveway home from work. God is good all the time! And All the time God is good!

Before school starts and the summer comes to an end I encourage you to do something special and fun as an entire family! Just the simple presence of both mom and dad being there will make your children so happy! As stay at home moms we constantly take our children places with us, but to have Dad their as well is the cherry on top!

Our outing this passed weekend was the National Balloon Classic. We went and watched the night glow Friday and chased balloons Saturday. The kids were so excited to see the balloons fly over them. I loved their little squeaks of joy. No matter what you do as long as you are together as a family that is all that matters!
